Wal-Mart Says Sales at Low End of Plan
CHICAGO - Wal-Mart Stores Inc. on Monday said sales last week were at the low end of its 3 percent to 5 percent growth plan, but it still expects December sales growth at stores open at least a year to be within that range, Reuters reports.
The world's largest retailer said cold weather-related items sold well "as long as customers could get to stores."
Wal-Mart said sales over the weekend were weaker than expected. It said demand for seasonal items, such as Christmas tree trimming merchandise, was below last year's levels.
Last week, Bentonville, Ark.-based Wal-Mart said it expected December same-store sales to be up 3 percent to 5 percent. For November, it posted same-store sales up a modest 2.6 percent.
