Wal-Mart Recalls Holiday Mugs
BENTONVILLE, Ark. - The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, in cooperation with Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. here, said it is conducting a voluntary recall of more than 70,000 Holiday Time Christmas Mug Gift Sets distributed by the retailer because of a choking hazard. No injuries had been reported as of yesterday afternoon.
The toys, which are manufactured in China, have been sold exclusively at Wal-Mart stores nationwide since October 2006 for about $5.
The Consumer Products Safety Commission said the buttons could detach from the plush characters sold with the mug gift sets, posing a choking hazard to young children. The gift sets include a decorated ceramic mug and a stuffed Santa, snowman, or reindeer.
Wal-Mart said consumers should immediately take the plush character away from small children and return it to their nearest Wal-Mart for a full refund.
