Wal-Mart Plans to Open Urban Supercenter in Dallas

DALLAS - Wal-Mart is planning to open the first of a new generation of urban stores with a two-story supercenter in Dallas, The Dallas Morning News reports.

The company is awaiting the approval of zoning changes, but it plans to build the store on Mockingbird Lane between Inwood Road and Lemmon Avenue, just west of the Park Cities. The company estimates that it will take about a year to get the store ready to open.

The store will reportedly include specially designed elevators that take shopping carts.

Wal-Mart will open its ninth Neighborhood Market in the Dallas-Fort Worth area in a few weeks, industry observers note.
