Wal-Mart Bags Ex-Frito-Lay Marketing Chief

BENTONVILLE, Ark. -- Wal-Mart continues to rebuild its marketing executive suite, this time luring a veteran marketer away from PepsiCo's Frito-Lay division.

The executive, Stephen F. Quinn, will be s.v.p. of marketing for Wal-Mart Stores, Inc., effective Sept. 12. Quinn is chief marketing officer for Frito-Lay, Inc., North America, where he has been responsible for all aspects of the marketing of Lay's, Doritos, Cheetos, Tostitos, and the rest of Frito-Lay's portfolio of salty snacks and dips.

The move follows Wal-Mart's appointment of John Fleming as chief marketing officer earlier this year. Fleming was a former marketing executive from Target Stores' department stores division and plans to bring some of his fashion sense to the discount-centric chain.

At Wal-Mart, Quinn will be responsible for marketing strategy, planning, finance, research and brand development, and will report to Fleming, the retailer said.

"Stephen is an outstanding, creative marketing executive, well-known and respected throughout the retail world," Fleming said. "He brings a tremendous amount of talent to our team as Wal-Mart moves in new directions."

Quinn joined Frito-Lay in 1992. He ran the marketing department for Frito-Lay Canada until 1996. Between 1996 and 2002, he worked in several capacities within the marketing organization at Frito-Lay's North American headquarters in Plano, Texas.

Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. operates Wal-Mart stores, supercenters, Neighborhood Markets, and SAM'S CLUB locations in the United States.
