Wal-Mart Adopting Customer-Centric Merchandising System

Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. plans to deploy a store and merchandise planning software system in the United Kingdom and then globally, following a user acceptance and extensive scalability test of the system.

The Bentonville, Ark.-based mega-retailer is working with Galleria Retail Technology Solutions on the initiative, which was developed to connect assortment and space planning business processes to plan assortments that reflect future demands on a store-by-store basis, rather than a purely historic view.

Chicago-based Galleria provides customer-centric merchandising solutions aimed at integrating with a retailer’s existing systems and resources to deliver the right product to the right stores in the right capacity. Its customers include Tesco, Safeway, Morrisons and Giant Eagle.
