Wakefern Food Corp. Implements Integrated Security Platform

ELIZABETH, N.J. -- Wakefern Food Corp. based here, the marketing and distribution arm of ShopRite supermarkets, has deployed the CounterACT integrated security platform, from Cupertino, Calif.-based ForeScout Technologies, Inc., to shield its network from unauthorized access and fulfill a key part of Visa's Cardholder Information Security Program (CISP) certification.

"ForeScout delivered on its promise to provide Wakefern with the security required to ensure the safety of our customer's information," said Wakefern infrastructure manager Charles Hawalka in a statement. "We selected CounterACT based upon the unique value of being able to enforce access control policies as well as automatically detect unknown threats without the need for updates. This additional defense layer complements our overall security efforts and gives us confidence that we are protecting our data infrastructure and the privacy of our customers."

"Regulatory compliance will continue to fuel security technology purchases for years to come," said ForeScout director of market development Ray Wizbowski Sr. "With the CounterACT deployment Wakefern will have the ability to fully enforce network access policies as well as provide 'zero-day' malware quarantine in a cost-effective platform."

ForeScout recently rolled out the CounterACT 5.0 security appliance, which provides total network access control by enforcing predefined enterprise network access policies. Building on the strength of its core patented technology, Active Response, CounterACT integrates granular network policy enforcement with malware quarantine and vulnerability assessment/mitigation technology.

CounterACT offers an integrated security platform permitting network administrators to block/quarantine malware and create/enforce granular access policies for all endpoints in conjunction with the existing network element, an essential aspect of fulfilling data security requirements for regulatory compliance. The platform is a cost-effective, flexible solution for delivering complete policy enforcement and intrusion prevention, without the need for major network infrastructure overhauls, according to ForeScout.

Wakefern, the biggest retailer-owned cooperative in the United States and one of the largest employers in New Jersey, comprises 44 members who individually own and operate supermarkets under the ShopRite banner. There are currently about 200 ShopRite stores in New Jersey, New York, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, and Delaware.
