Vote for Your Favorite Jack Link's 'Meathead'
Just in time for the two major political parties’ national conventions, Jack Link’s Beef Jerky has unveiled its tribute to this year’s political race – mosaic portraits of “Barack Obameat” and “Meat Romney.”
Created by San Francisco-based mosaic artist Jason Mecier out of thousands of pieces of jerky, the two candidates join "Sasquatch," the brand’s icon, in becoming immortalized in Jack Link’s products. Consumers can cast their votes online for their favorite of the three “meathead” portraits for a chance to win a $5,000 Snack Stimulus prize package.
“For years, political and cultural figures have earned the distinction of having their likenesses preserved for all time using the artistic medium of the day,” said Jeff LeFever, director of marketing for Minong, Wis.-based Jack Link’s Beef Jerky. “In the light-hearted spirit of the brand, we commissioned artworks that used jerky instead of paint. Now, Jack Link’s asks all Americans, ‘which meathead will you vote for?’”
Earlier this year, Jack Link’s and Mecier unveiled a meathead portrait of Sasquatch, star of the company’s “Messin’ With Sasquatch” advertising campaign, and have now added Meat Romney and Barack Obameat to the lineup. Each portrait took approximately 50 hours and 50 bags of Jack Link’s Jerky to create. In order to achieve a broad color palette, various flavors were used, including Jack Link’s Original Beef Jerky, Jack Link’s Turkey Jerky, as well as the brand’s Sweet & Hot and Smokehouse flavors, among others.
“We think this is one election that Jack Link’s jerky fans, regardless of their political affiliation, can really sink their teeth into,” added LeFever.
