Vons Raises $452K Muscular Dystrophy Association
ARCADIA, Calif. - Vons here said a company-wide five-week fundraising campaign at its Vons and Pavilions stores to benefit the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA), held through Labor Day, raised $452,000 through various fundraising efforts.
Vons and its parent company, Safeway, have been long-time supporters of the Muscular Dystrophy Association, and over the years have raised more than $25 million for MDA's fight against neuromuscular diseases. By raising $452,000, Vons exceeded the division goal by 27 percent. All of the Safeway store brands combined raised $4.7 million this year.
During the campaign, Vons provided customers with multiple opportunities to contribute through a range of in-store fundraising activities, including MDA's long-standing Aisles of Smiles program. The company said checkstands at all Vons and Pavilions stores in Southern California were equipped with point-of-sale materials that provide customers a convenient way to contribute to the cause.
Safeway Inc. operates 1,770 stores in the United States and Canada, and had annual sales of $38.4 billion in 2005.
