SAN DIEGO - A Vons employee was arrested last Thursday on suspicion of inserting needles into donuts in the employee cafeteria, causing a superficial injury to a co-worker who bit into one, police reported.
According to published reports, a security tape recorded the suspect in the act of tampering with the food, which caused a puncture wound to the cheek of one co-worker when he tried to eat one of the tampered snacks in a break room at the Vons on Mira Mesa Boulevard .
Police arrested a 19-year-old man who worked in the supermarket's deli department.
