Upromise Launches Grocery Service to Help Families Save for College

BROOKLINE, Mass. - Upromise Inc., a firm that partners with companies to help families save for college, announced today that it is extending its service to supermarkets.

Thirteen of America's leading consumer packaged goods manufacturers have agreed to automatically contribute 3 percent to 5 percent of the product purchase price into a Upromise member's account. The Upromise Grocery service will be available at more than 15,000 stores and all CVS/pharmacy locations, according to the company.

Participating manufacturers include: Coca-Cola, Garelick Farms, The Glad Products Company, GlaxoSmithKline Consumer Healthcare, Gorton's, Keebler, Kellogg, Kimberly-Clark, McNeil, Minute Maid, Nestle Ice Cream Company, Procter & Gamble, Snyder's of Hanover Inc., and Welch's.

To participate in Upromise Grocery, members simply register their grocery loyalty card(s), or credit/debit cards at www.upromise.com. Enrolling is free, and there are no coupons to collect or receipts to keep. When families use their registered card as they normally do, manufacturers automatically contribute the percentage of product price into the customer's Upromise account. All grocery contributions are in addition to other store specials and manufacturers' coupons. Members can track their contributions through purchase summaries posted online in their Upromise account.

Upromise's participating grocery and drug stores will promote the service in their weekly circulars, in-store signage, radio promotions, and by marking the shelves of participating products with the Upromise logo and "Save For College" message.

Upromise Grocery complements a service that already allows families to save when they buy gas at ExxonMobil, shop at Toys"R"Us, join America Online, use AT&T long distance, stop at McDonalds or 7,000 other restaurants, use a Citi Upromise Card, purchase or lease a GM car or truck, even buy or sell a home with Century 21. Recent additions to the Upromise network include American Airlines, Circuit City and New York Life. The Upromise service was launched in April 2001.

"Upromise's mission is to make college more affordable by helping millions of families save more," said George Bell, Upromise CEO. "Upromise Grocery, with its everyday savings opportunities and its regular reminder of the importance of saving for college, represents our biggest step yet in fulfilling that mission."
