United Supermarkets Raises $18K for Breast Cancer Research

United Supermarkets, Market Street and Amigos store locations together raised almost $18,000 for the fight against breast cancer during the company’s annual “Who Do You Pink For?” promotion. The funds raised will be donated to local chapters of the American Cancer Society (ACS).

“At United, we are always motivated to help raise awareness and funds together with our partners and guests for a great cause,” said Shelby Crews, community relations manager for United Supermarkets, LLC. ”We thank our guests who helped us raise more than three times the amount we raised last year toward the fight against breast cancer.”

During October, shoppers helped raise money for breast cancer research and awareness by purchasing pink reusable bags for $1.99 each, with $1 from each sale going to ACS. Also during the month, shoppers indicated who they “are pink for” by sharing their breast cancer story on the company's Facebook pages. United committed to making a $5 donation for each story toward breast cancer research and awareness.

In addition, as shoppers purchased specially marked products throughout the store, grocery partners agreed to donate a percentage of those sales to support the cause.

Lubbock, Texas-based United Supermarkets operates 51 stores under four distinct formats: United Supermarkets, Market Street, Amigos and United Express. The company’s 52nd store – a fourth-generation Market Street location – is currently under construction in Lubbock.
