United Bows 24-hour Store in Amarillo

In an effort to enhance the shopping experience for its Amarillo shoppers, United Supermarkets will expand the operational hours of its 45th and Bell location to 24 hours. Effective Feb. 3, the store will become the first United location in Amarillo to be open around-the-clock.

Creating 24-hour locations is one way United is adapting to meet community needs and offer new options to shoppers, according to Sidney Hopper, COO of United Supermarkets. “We have a significant number of people in the Amarillo community who work late or overnight – law enforcement, health care and some large manufacturing companies with night shifts,” Hopper said. “We believe this is an underserved population in terms of shopping options, particularly when it comes to pharmacy.”

The pharmacy at the 45th and Bell location will be fully staffed overnight, as will many other store departments. Food service areas – including deli, bakery and Henry D’s restaurant – will maintain current operational hours, although several self-service options will be available all night long.

“Providing a safe environment, as always, is a top priority for us,” added Hopper. “We’ve spent a lot of time ensuring systems are in place to provide a safe experience for our Guests and team members.” That includes, Hopper said, adding additional security personnel, as well as offering carryout service and accompanying guests to their cars at all times.

Lubbock, Texas-based United Supermarkets operates 51 stores in 30 markets across north and west Texas under four distinct formats: United Supermarkets, Market Street, Amigos and United Express.
