UK's KwikSave Orders PSC Portable Data Capture Terminals

PORTLAND, Ore. - PSC Inc. announced on Monday that it has completed a $1.44 million contract with KwikSave, a major United Kingdom supermarket chain, for 1,500 Falcon 340 portable data collection terminals including associated software and services.

The data management solution will be used in KwikSave supermarket chain stores throughout the UK to improve inventory management.

PSC is providing the custom application development and will supply the solution in partnership with IBM. The 1,500 portable data terminals are replacing the supermarket chain's existing inventory management system, which has been in use for the past 8 years. The total solution will include PSC's Falcon 340 terminals, Bespoke applications and IBM Asynchronous communication utilities. Rollout will be completed by April 2002 and ongoing services will be provided by IBM UK.

"Replacing our legacy management system with faster, more efficient data collection technology through PSC and IBM UK will enable us to better manage inventory on a store-to-store basis," said Darrell Maton, store systems executive for KwikSave. "Our store managers will be able to monitor the shelf replenishment process faster, reducing shrink and ultimately improving our customer service and our customers shopping experience."
