Trader Joe's Said Nixing Chinese Single-source Food by April

MONROVIA, Calif. -- Trader Joe's plans to eliminate some Chinese-grown food products it carries in coming months due to customer concerns about safety, according to an AP report.

The retailer will phase out single-ingredient food items from mainland China, such as garlic and frozen organic spinach, by April 1, while products that include ingredients from both China and other sources will remain.

The latest planned phase-out will apparently come four months later than Trader Joe's original January deadline, which was reported by Progressive Grocer last October. Trader Joe's was not available for comment at press time.
