Keene, N.H.-based C&S Wholesale Grocers plans to use wireless technology with its fleet for better cold chain visibility and control of its refrigerated products.

The wholesaler will deploy New Hartford, Conn.-based Par Technology Corp.’s RT-200 monitoring solution, which will allow the wholesaler constant real-time visibility and remote control of its refrigerated trailers while also affording better yields in asset utilization and fuel savings, according to the vendor. C&S expects the integration of this cellular-based solution to optimize the protection of perishable products while in transit.

“Par Logistics is pushing the technological envelope and advancing the refrigerated transportation industry forward with [its] solutions,” said Joe Casey, president of Carrier of Southern New England, a channel partner of Par that will install and maintain the solution. “Food safety and advanced command and control of asset operations are what all future cold chain managers will want and need.”

C&S distributes food to supermarkets, retail stores and military bases across the country, representing approximately 4,600 stores from more than 50 locations in 11 states. Among its customers are Stop & Shop, Giant-Carlisle, Giant-Landover, Shaw’s, the Great Atlantic & Pacific Tea Co. (A&P), Ralphs, Safeway and Target.
