Town Temporarily Renames Road for Sprouts Opening

FLOWER MOUND, Tex. -- Scottsdale, Ariz.-based Sprouts Farmers Market is receiving an unusual housewarming gift as it opens a store here today; The Flower Mound city council has agreed to temporarily name the busy thoroughfare near the store Sprouts FM 1171, per the retailer's request, according to local press reports.

The road is otherwise known as Farm Road 1171. The town's unprecedented name change goes into effect Saturday and ends Nov. 30.

Residents of Flower Mound had been seeking an alternative retailer, according to the reports. Officials had reportedly approached Whole Foods, but could not persuade the chain to open a store here. Sprouts, while not as upscale as Whole Foods, specializes in farm-fresh produce, all-natural meats, fresh seafood, natural and organic products, and a large selection of vitamins and supplements. The Flower Mound location will be the company's second in Texas.
