Tops Breaks Ground on 3rd Central N.Y. Fuel Site

Tops Markets LLC has begun construction on its third central New York-area fueling station, which will be located at the Airport Plaza Tops store at 3803 Brewerton Road in North Syracuse.

“We identified our Airport Plaza store as an ideal location for the addition of a fuel site,” explained Frank Curci, president and CEO of Williamsville, N.Y.-based Tops. “This new Tops fuel station gives our customers another convenient way to save by taking advantage of significant discounts both in-store and at the pump.”

All store customers will be able to redeem fuel rewards at the pump through the grocery chain’s “GasPoints” program. Shoppers who use the Tops BonusPlus or BonusCard earn points on qualifying purchases, earning one GasPoint for every dollar they spend, with each qualifying grocery or pharmacy dollar accumulated shown at the bottom of their receipts. For every $100 spent at a Tops store, shoppers using a BonusCard get 10 cents per gallon of gas off the next time they fill up, and to redeem points, customers scan their card at a Tops gas pump. There’s no limit to how many Gas Extra Rewards points customers can earn. Points earned at participating stores without on-site gas stations can be redeemed at other stores offering gas. Further, for every manufacturer’s coupon used, shoppers can receive another 10 BonusPoints, up to 100 points, equaling an additional 10 cents off a gallon of gas per shopping trip.

The Brewerton Road fueling site will offer four double-sided self-service fuel dispensers with three grades of gas: regular, mid-grade and premium. Customers will be able to pay at the pump using a major credit card or at the walk-in Tops Xpress convenience location. Within the Tops Xpress, customers will also be able to buy snack foods, beverages, New York state lottery instant and online games, automotive maintenance items, local and national newspapers, and other seasonal items.

Construction on the fueling station, which will be Tops’ 64th company-wide, is expected to be completed in September 2012. The Airport Plaza Tops is open 24 hours, and the fueling facility will be open from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. daily.

Tops operates 132 full-service supermarkets – 127 company-owned and five franchise locations – and employs more than 14,000 associates in upstate New York and northern Pennsylvania.
