Three Nash Finch-owned Supermarkets Sold to Independent Chain

RAPID CITY, S.D. -- Lynn's, Inc., an independent seven-store supermarket chain based here, said this week that it has purchased three Black Hills-area Family Thrift Center stores from Minneapolis-based distributor Nash Finch Co. Lynn's will operate the stores under the Lynn's Dakotamart banner.

The three purchased stores are in Belle Fourche, Hot Springs, and Spearfish, S.D. According to Lynn's general manager Marlin Martin in a statement: "These three communities are great places to live and great places to be in business. We welcome our new colleagues and look forward to serving the loyal customers of these stores, just as we proudly serve many other communities in South Dakota and North Dakota, with the best service and highest-quality products available."

Nash Finch has supplied Lynn's entire group since 2000. The three stores will be transitioned over to Lynn's gradually, with the last store to be handed over in January 2006.

The addition of the stores marks an important stage of development for Lynn's. "The growth of our store base to 10 supermarkets is a significant milestone in the history of Lynn's," noted Martin. "Since the purchase of [our] store in Custer[, S.D.] in 2000, we have worked closely with Nash Finch and their Rapid City distribution center to grow our business. We are proud to be a Nash Finch customer and look forward to a smooth transition in taking over these stores."

Added Nash Finch s.v.p. for Food Distribution Terry Littrell, "We look forward to continuing our long-standing partnership [with Lynn's] into the future."

Founded in 1968 by Lynn and Georgia Feist, Lynn's currently operates stores under the Lynn's Dakotamart banner in North Dakota and South Dakota, as well as a dollar store, Dollar Giant, in Rapid City. The company employs more 350 people and will add about 120 more with the new acquisitions.

Nash Finch's core business, food distribution, serves independent retailers and military commissaries in 28 states, the District of Columbia, Europe, Cuba, Puerto Rico, Iceland, the Azores, and Honduras. The company also owns and operates retail stores, mainly supermarkets under the Econofoods, Family Thrift Center, and Sun Mart banners.
