Launched at the recent Natural Products Expo West show, the gardein Ultimate Beefless Burger has the taste and texture of a traditional hamburger but is made instead from a blend of vegetables, grains and plant-based proteins. A 130-calorie patty offers 65 percent less fat than a hamburger, and is free of cholesterol and saturated fat. What’s more, each meatless burger contains 17 grams of protein, 6 grams of carbohydrates, 2 grams of fiber, 5 grams of fat and 280 milligrams of sodium per serving, according to Richmond, British Columbia-based Garden Protein International, which makes a line of meat-free products.
