Talking Butter Heads to Supermarket Shelves

NEW YORK - ConAgra plans to revive the "talking tub" pitch for its Parkay spread next month with the help of a motion sensor and voice chip, Reuters reports.

The tub will tell shoppers that "the label says Parkay -- the flavor says butter," bringing back a hall-of-fame advertising campaign that first appeared in 1973.

The campaign will be complemented with a new series of TV commercials.

ConAgra said this is the biggest campaign that Parkay -- whose competitors include other butter-flavored spreads such as Unilever's I Can't Believe It's Not Butter -- has had in three years.

The in-store talking tub campaign will offer a variety of prizes, mostly alarm clocks and keychains, with a grand prize of a $10,000 kitchen redesign, according to Reuters.
