Taggart Named President and C.E.O. of Dick's Supermarkets

PLATTEVILLE, Wis. -- Fresh Brands, Inc. announced that Richard C. Taggart has been named president and c.e.o. of its Dick's Supermarkets, Inc. subsidiary. Taggart succeeds Robert Brodbeck, who has resigned for personal reasons.

Brodbeck became president of Dick's Supermarkets in 1976. He joined the company in 1950 at the age of 14 when his parents opened the first Dick's Supermarket on Main Street in Platteville. Under his leadership, Dick's has grown to include seven stores in Wisconsin and one in Illinois.

Taggart has 29 years of supermarket industry experience. He has served Dick's Supermarkets as controller since joining the company in 1985, and most recently also managed the firm's corporate staff. His industry experience additionally includes positions with Kroger, Great Scot, and Allied Supermarkets.

A new store in Maquoketa, Iowa, is under construction and plans are underway for a new and expanded bakery/deli production facility in Platteville. Fresh Brands, Inc. purchased the Dick's Supermarkets chain in 2001.

Fresh Brands is a supermarket retailer and grocery wholesaler through corporate-owned retail, franchised, and independent supermarkets. The corporate-owned and franchised retail supermarkets currently operate under the Piggly Wiggly and Dick's Supermarkets brands. Fresh Brands has 73 franchised supermarkets, 29 corporate-owned stores all served by two distribution centers, and a centralized bakery/deli production facility. Stores are located throughout Wisconsin and northern Illinois.
