Supervalu to Send Coupons to Smartphones
Supervalu Inc. is making the mobile couponing app Yowza!! available to more than 1900 independent stores.
The new alliance means independent retailers supplied by Supervalu have the opportunity to offer the free app to their shoppers to receive real-time savings on in-store purchases. The independent grocery stores supplied by Supervalu serve thousands of neighborhoods nationwide.
“We are always looking for the next best way for the independent retailers we supply to offer more value to their shoppers,” said Teresa Chipps, Supervalu VP of marketing and education, independent business. “With Yowza’s ability to bring fast-paced savings to customers , we are confident we have found just that.”
While grocery coupons have had a longstanding appeal to bargain driven consumers, many shoppers now forgo the traditional paper coupon because of the time and energy needed to clip them.
“Yowza delivers digital coupons directly to shoppers’ smartphones while they are actually shopping in the store,” said David Teichner, Yowza CEO. “We are incredibly excited to team with a forward-thinking company like Supervalu to enhance the success of their independent retailers and improve the shopper’s overall experience.”
Minneapolis-based Supervalu Inc. operates 4,300 stores composed of approximately 1,102 traditional retail stores, including 797 in-store pharmacies; 1,332 hard-discount stores, of which 935 are operated by licensee owners; and 1,900 independent stores serviced primarily by the company’s traditional food distribution business.
