Supervalu Names Susan Parker S.V.P./C.M.O.

MINNEAPOLIS -- Susan E. Parker, a former Southwest Airlines marketing executive, has joined Supervalu in the newly created position of s.v.p./c.m.o., the company said yesterday.

Starting Feb. 5 in her new role, Parker will direct the brand positioning and marketing strategy for the company's portfolio of grocery and pharmacy retail banners, including Albertsons, bigg's, Jewel-Osco, Shaw's, Acme, Farm Fresh, Scott's, Shoppers Food & Pharmacy, Cub Foods, Hornbacher's, Shop 'n Save, and Lucky, Supervalu said.

Parker will also provide strategic marketing support to the independently owned stores that Supervalu supplies, the company said.

Reporting to Duncan Mac Naughton, Supervalu's e.v.p./merchandising and marketing, Parker will also lead the company's relationships with marketing partners and the development and delivery of the customer experience.

"As the nation's third-largest grocery retailer, it is essential that we continually strengthen our marketing and brand management capabilities," said Mac Naughton. "Susan will be instrumental in providing leadership for the kind of strategic marketing insight and marketplace innovation necessary to drive and sustain the growth of Supervalu and our retail banners. She also will lead the development of our Marketing Center of Excellence to ensure that we are continually raising the bar and equipping our banners and independent retailers with the customer-centered information they need to achieve profitable growth."

Jeff Noddle, Supervalu's chairman and c.e.o., described Parker's appointment as "another step forward in Supervalu's transformation into a national retail powerhouse and a marketing-oriented, customer-centric service company."

Parker, 48, has more than 25 years of experience in consumer marketing, including 16 years with Southwest Airlines, where she most recently was senior director of marketing. While at Southwest Airlines, Parker developed and implemented brand enhancement strategies, customer segmentation, and integrated marketing solutions. She also led the development of the corporate customer relationship management strategy.

Prior to joining Southwest Airlines, Parker was a merchandise manager for Texas-based Joske's department stores, which was acquired by Dillard's in 1987.
