Supervalu Expands Enterprise Data Warehouse

EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. -- Supervalu said it has expanded its Teradata data warehouse with an 18-node upgrade to help its efforts to consolidate its data into a single enterprise data
warehouse, providing business users with the information needed to quickly respond to market changes.

This latest upgrade of Dayton, Ohio-based Teradata's software to the new Teradata 5450 server features a boost of 18 percent in the price/performance ratio over previous models, according to the vendor. The upgrade also includes professional services and back-up and recovery services.

"Rather than have multiple systems and databases across our company, we positioned the Teradata data warehouse to be the single source of information," said Paul Singer, Supervalu's s.v.p. and c.i.o. "It provides an accurate view of both the distribution and the
retail parts of our business."

Supervalu opreates approximately 2,500 retail grocery locations and provides distribution and related logistics-support services to more than 5,000 grocery retail endpoints across the country.
