Supervalu Elevates Haugarth to Lead Food Distribution Operations

MINNEAPOLIS -- Janel Haugarth, president of Supervalu's Hopkins, Minn.-based Northern region, yesterday was promoted to s.v.p., president and c.o.o. of food distribution companies.

In her new position, Haugarth, 50, will succeed Mike Jackson, who was named new president and c.o.o. at Supervalu's annual meeting last week.

In her new role, which becomes effective later this summer, Haugarth will report to Jackson, and will continue to oversee the Northern region operations until her successor is named.

"Janel comes to this position at a very important time, as Supervalu leverages its industry-leading role in distribution to further grow and enhance our business," said Jackson. "Her extensive experience and keen industry insight will enable her to skillfully guide this dynamic, highly competitive business and ensure that Supervalu continues to deliver innovative supply chain solutions to the nearly 3,200 retailers we serve."

A 29-year Supervalu veteran, Haugarth has held management positions in both distribution and corporate finance. Since 2000, she has served as president of the company's Northern region; and in 2002, assumed responsibility for its Northwest region. The distributor's Northern and Northwest regions serve grocery retailers across 14 states, making them the company's largest in volume.

Haugarth, a certified public accountant, holds a bachelor's degree from the University of Mary in Bismarck, N.D. with a double major in business administration and accounting. She also completed the Kellogg School of Management's Executive Advanced Education program. She is a member of the Minnesota Women's Economic Round Table; sits on the boards of the Minnesota Grocers Association (MGA); Tidyman's, LLC and; International Outsourcing Services (IOS).
