Supervalu to Cut 117 Jobs in Pleasant Prairie, Wis.

Supervalu Inc. plans to lay off 117 employees at its distribution center in Pleasant Prairie, Wis., beginning in March, according to published reports. The Eden Prairie, Minn.-based retailer and wholesaler announced in October its plan to sell the facility to Meijer Inc., and operate distribution from its Green Bay location.

According to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, Supervalu filed a notice to the state Department of Workforce Development on Tuesday detailing its plans be begin the first series of layoffs by March 9 and to close the facility by May 1. The company’s regional offices, currently based at the distribution center, will relocate.

Supervalu is reportedly set to sell its Save-A-Lot and Albertsons chains to New York-based private equity firm Cerberus Capital Management.
