Supervalu to be C&K Market’s Primary Grocery Supplier

C&K Market, Inc. has formed a new relationship with Supervalu, Inc., that will lower prices over time for customers of C&K’s grocery stores, and expand Supervalu’s presence in the West and investment in its Oregon operations.

Supervalu, which owns and operates 2,400 grocery stores nationwide and provides grocery supply services to another 1,900 independent grocers, will be the primary grocery supplier for C&K Market, Inc. beginning April, 2011.

“By leveraging the strength of Supervalu’s buying power, we can access more competitive pricing on commodities and ultimately pass on the savings to our customers,” said Doug Nidiffer, president and CEO of C&K Market. “We are committed to offering high quality products for reasonable prices, and this relationship helps us do just that.”

Supervalu, whose West Coast distribution facilities also include locations in Southern California and Salt Lake City, will invest in its Oregon distribution center to provide service to the 62 C&K Market grocery stores in Oregon and Northern California.

“Supervalu is continuing its Western expansion efforts by becoming the primary supplier for C&K and its grocery stores in Oregon and California,” said Jim Gilliam, president of Supervalu’s Northern and Western region Supply Chain. “With this relationship, C&K will also have the opportunity to take advantage of Supervalu’s array of professional services that promote and enable continued business success and growth.”

C&K Market, Inc. is a family and employee-owned company based in Brookings, Ore. It operates 62 grocery stores and 13 pharmacies under the banners of Ray’s Food Place, Shop Smart, C&K Market, and Pharmacy Express.
