Straub's to Open First New Store in 40 Years

CLAYTON, Mo. - Upscale grocer Straub's Markets based here will open its fifth store, and its first in more than 4 decades, next summer in Ellisville, Mo. The 40,000-square-foot Straub's Market and CafE will be more than three times the size of its four other stores, the retailer said.

The fourth generation, family-owned independent said it is designed the store as a destination marketplace with new features such as a 150-seat indoor/outdoor cafE and a cooking school, according to officials from operation.

"We've discussed a possible fifth store for a number of years, and have eyed numerous locations," said J.W. "Trip" Straub III, son of third-generation owner/operator Jack W. Straub, Jr. "We believe the selected site will further our responsiveness to customers who have been requesting a greater West County presence."

Straub said the company's forthcoming unit will be unlike any other grocery store in the marketplace. "Over the past decade, I dedicated myself to visiting groceries all over the country and abroad," said Straub. "I've collected exciting ideas during my travels and conversations with business owners and consumers. My goal is to incorporate the very best of everything I've seen in an environment that appeals to St. Louisans."
