Strack & Van Til Store Auction Delayed

The auction for 19 stores of bankrupt grocery retailer Strack & Van TIl (SVT), originally scheduled for Thursday this week, has been delayed until July 6.

The remaining assets, including SVT parent Central Grocers' distribution and warehousing facility, in Joliet, Ill., was still scheduled for Thursday, the Northwest Indiana Times reported.

Chicago-area supermarket chain Jewel-Osco has offered $100 million as a stalking-horse bidder to acquire SVT’s remaining stores, but Jewel could be outbid in next week’s auction. Central Grocers, the independent grocery distributor that owns Highland, Ind.-based SVT, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in May.

A notice of postponement of the auction was filed Wednesday, but did not note a reason for the delay, the Times reported.
