Strack & Van Til Pres/CEO to Retire

David S. Wilkinson, president/CEO of Strack and Van Til, will retire from the Highland, Ind.-based grocery chain, with a tentative effective date of Aug. 5. Wilkinson's replacement has not yet been named.

Named president/CEO in 1998, the company has seen steady growth under Wilkinson's leadership. “When I took over we had ten stores producing sales of about $350 million annually,” Wilkinson noted. “Today we have 38 stores and are a $1.1 billion dollar chain."

“Dave has served his customers, employees and our industry well during his tenure at Strack and Van Til," said Kenneth Nemeth, president/CEO of Joliet, Ill.-based Central Grocers. "Central Grocers has enjoyed an outstanding relationship with Dave during his career…We thank Dave for the great job he did, and growing the company into what it is today.”

A subsidiary of Central Grocers, Inc., Strack and Van Til operates 20 stores, along with 16 Ultra Food and two Town & Country Market locations in Indiana and Illinois.
