Stop & Shop’s A+ School Rewards Launches Fighting Hunger Challenge

The Stop & Shop Supermarket Co. has started off the New Year with the A+ School Rewards Fighting Hunger Challenge, a contest in which participating schools host food drives for area food banks, pantries and soup kitchens, with prizes going to the entrants that create the best displays featuring the donated goods.

Running through Feb. 13, the challenge is open to all schools, public or private, that are currently enrolled in the A+ School Rewards program, and enables customers to help earn money for local schools when they shop at Stop & Shop. Rewards are accrued with each purchase made using a Stop & Shop loyalty card from Oct. 3, 2014, through March 19, 2015.

"As part of Stop & Shop's commitment to being a better neighbor in each of the communities we serve, the A+ School Rewards Fighting Hunger Challenge is an ideal way to support both local schools and feeding those in need," said Arlene Putterman, manager of public and community relations at Stop & Shop's New York metro division, in Purchase, N.Y. The banner's New England division is based in Quincy, Mass.

To take part in the challenge, a school must choose a local not-for-profit food bank, pantry or soup kitchen, hold a food drive and collect nonperishable goods. Each contest participant must also construct a unique Fighting Hunger display using donated products and place it in a prominent area of the school. The food items will go to the designated organizations at the close of the contest.

After the food drives, coordinators and/or principals must submit photographs of their displays, along with the names of their designated recipients. Schools are divided into three brackets according to enrollment size, with a prize of $1,000 each for the top two schools in each bracket. The winners' photos will be posted to Stop & Shop's Facebook, Twitter and Pinterest accounts.

Online entries must be submitted by Feb. 13 at [email protected], and mailed entries must be postmarked by Feb. 13 and received by Feb. 19 at the following address: A+ Fighting Hunger Challenge; c/o Crane Communications; 111 Presidential Blvd, Ste. 252; Bala Cynwyd, PA 19004.
