Stop & Shop/Giant-Landover Funds Local Schools Via A+ BonusBucks

QUINCY, Mass. -- The Stop & Shop Supermarket Co. and Giant-Landover have presented grants to more than 400 schools from the combined $2.15 million donation from the Ahold banners' annual "A+ BonusBucks Program."

These grants can enable schools to purchase new classroom educational technology, library aids, and musical instruments, as well as pay for field trips and school sports programs.

The charitable program, which ran from Oct. 6, 2006, to April 5, 2007, provided opportunities for Stop & Shop and Giant Food customers to help area schools by making purchases with their Stop & Shop or Giant Food loyalty cards.

Schools then received points or "BonusBucks" for every consumer dollar spent using the cards. Customers named schools to receive the points from their loyalty card purchases.

"We...know that this year's participating schools will be able to use these monies to enhance their students learning experience," said Stop & Shop/Giant-Landover president and c.e.o. Jose Alvarez in a statement.

"This year's A+ BonusBucks program was very successful, and we thank our vendor partners for their continued support," added Donald Sussman, e.v.p. of merchandising and marketing for Stop & Shop/Giant-Landover.

Stop & Shop/Giant-Landover employs over 82,000 associates and operates 580 stores throughout Massachusetts, Connecticut, Rhode Island, New Hampshire, Maine, New York, New Jersey, Virginia, Maryland, Delaware, and the District of Columbia.
