Stop & Shop/Giant Appoints Three E.V.P.'s

QUINCY, Mass. -- The Stop & Shop Supermarket Co./Giant Food has added three e.v.p.'s to its executive leadership structure: Jim Dwyer has become e.v.p. of strategy and business development, Robin Michel has joined the retailer as e.v.p. and general manager, Giant-Landover; and Jeff Slater was appointed e.v.p., people.

In addition to his new position, Dwyer serves as chief business development officer for Ahold USA. He will be responsible for the company's marketing, corporate brands, store format development, pharmacy, strategic planning, and the grocery home delivery service Peapod. Dwyer was most recently president of Global Bath and Kitchen Products for American Standard Cos., and also worked in the areas of marketing and sales management at Procter & Gamble, Kraft General Foods and Tropicana, where he held the position of president of Tropicana Products North America.

Michel will have general management responsibility for Giant-Landover, overseeing the division's sales, operating profits, organization, and employees. Michel formerly served as group v.p. procurement and merchandising at Roundy's, in which capacity she was recognized as one of Progressive Grocer's "Top Women in Grocery" last year. Before joining Roundy's, she was v.p. merchandising, US and Canada, for 7-Eleven, Inc. In addition, and worked at HEB and Kroger, where she held positions of increasing importance, including store director, buyer, merchandiser, district manager, v.p.sales, v.p. operations, v.p. produce, and group v.p. drug store procurement and merchandising.

Slater will head up the company's human resource efforts, with a particular focus on the crucial part employees will play in building Stop & Shop and Giant brands. He most recently served as the human resource executive for Dunkin' Brands, which includes Dunkin' Donuts and Baskin Robbins. Slater also served president of ISC, Inc., a consulting firm providing business strategy leveraging and human resources to create competitive advantage. Before that, he held human resource roles at PepsiCo and Grand Metropolitan PLC.
