Stop & Shop Treats Hospitalized Kids to Easter Lunch

4/11/2014

Stop & Shop and Carando Classic Meats provided almost 200 free early Easter lunches on April 10 to patients at Shriner Hospitals for Children-Boston, along with their families and hospital staffers.

The meal included Carando’s spiral ham, as well as mashed potatoes, green beans and pumpkin pie. After the feast, Carando and Quincy, Mass.-based Stop & Shop, an Ahold USA banner, handed out Easter baskets to the children, who are under treatment for orthopedic conditions.

Holiday Smiles

“We know it’s tough for a child to be in the hospital, especially during the holidays,” said Dan Incaudo, Carando’s VP and general manager. “Hopefully our lunch helped bring a smile to all of the families that are spending Easter here. Fortunately the kids are receiving the best possible care from an incredible medical team.”

The lunch is part of a continuing effort, “Carando Cares,” in which the brand, part of the John Morrell Food Group, a subsidiary of Smithfield Foods, gives back to local communities. In 2013, Carando and Big Y Foods served Christmas dinner to all of the firefighters in their mutual hometown of Springfield, Mass., as part of the campaign. The company has plans for additional acts of giving later this year.
