Stop & Shop Teams Up with Fujitsu on POS Solution

QUINCY, Mass. -- Stop & Shop/Giant-Landover yesterday signed an agreement to collaborate with Frisco, Texas-based POS solution provider Fujitsu Transaction Solutions Inc. to develop - and pilot - Fujitsu's new GlobalSTORE point-of-sale software release.

"We [will install the] Fujitsu GlobalSTORE POS application and its Pervasive Retailing Framework as we migrate from our legacy POS applications," said Gina Ventre, v.p., operations and technology support at Stop & Shop/Giant-Landover.

"The new release will offer the fastest and most interactive application in the supermarket space for the U.S. market," said Keith McNamara, s.v.p., software operations at Fujitsu. "Our service-orientated architecture will minimize the time to create real-time interoperability between disparate applications and devices."

Fujitsu's GlobalSTORE application is a full-featured, customizable POS and cash management solution. Key features of the new release will include:
- Advanced User Interfaces: Touch-enabled interactive screens for cashiers and customer information displays developed to increase checkout speed and up-sell opportunities.
- Transparent Integration: Simplified integration to store systems like customer relationship management (CRM)/loyalty programs and U-Scan self-checkout systems.
- Microsoft-centric Technology: Built on the latest Microsoft .NET technologies.

GlobalSTORE has been validated by security assessor PSC to meet the Visa USA Payment Application Best Practices, which means that GlobalSTORE conforms to best practices designed to protect payment card information from being compromised.

The Stop & Shop Supermarket Company/Giant Food, based in Quincy, Massachusetts, employs more than 81,000 associates and operates 575 stores throughout Massachusetts, Connecticut, Rhode Island, New Hampshire, New York, New Jersey, Virginia, Maryland, Delaware, and the District of Columbia.
