Stop & Shop Recalls Ground Beef
QUINCY, Mass. - The Stop & Shop Supermarket Company is voluntarily recalling all ground beef and store made ground beef patties sold to customers between Sept. 5 and Sept. 14 from stores in Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut, New York and New Jersey after learning that the product may be contaminated with E. coli 0157:H7. The recall is part of a larger scale announcement made by the Moyer Packing Company on Sept. 14, which involves several retailers.
Laboratory tests by the United States Department of Agriculture confirmed the presence of the bacteria during random sampling of beef from a processor that was supplied product from Moyer Packing Company. No regulatory agency has confirmed the presence of E coli 0157:H7 in any product sold at Stop & Shop, but the company has removed the product as a precautionary measure.
