Stop & Shop Marking 100th Anniversary

5/9/2014

Joe Kelley, Stop & Shop Supermarket Co. LLC president, launched the Ahold USA banner's 100th anniversary celebrations during a May 8 event held at its Quincy, Mass., headquarters. Before an audience of associates, dignitaries such as Quincy Mayor Thomas Koch, local leaders and community members, Kelley introduced Stop & Shop's year-long “Fresh Ideas for 100 Years” campaign.

'100 Days of Giving'

Additionally, the occasion marked the start of the "100 Days of Giving" initiative, under which every day through Labor Day, Stop & Shop's New England division will donate $1,000 each to 100 nonprofit organizations in the region, with a check presentation to the Quincy Public Schools Music Department.

The event also featured the unveiling of the anniversary banner and an official proclamation bestowed on the grocer by the city and state, as well as an appearance by Stop & Shop's Anniversary Vehicle, which will embark on a community tour delivering the "100 Days of Giving" checks to nonprofits.

Other anniversary-related activities throughout the year will include consumer programs and in-store offers slated to start May 23, select products in vintage packaging available for a limited time, a summer concert series taking place from June through September, and a Fresh Idea Fridays Facebook Recipe Contest.

For Stop & Shop's official birthday on Sept. 6, the chain plans to offer free cake and festivities in all 400 of its stores, which are located in New England and the New York metropolitan area.
