Stop & Shop Golf Tournament Aims to Raise Over $1 Million

QUINCY, Mass. -- Well-known pro golfers Brett Quigley, Brad Faxon, J.J. Henry, Jason Gore, Laura Diaz, Vicki Goetze-Ackermann, and Andy North will join Stop & Shop/Giant Food president and c.e.o. Jose Alvarez and local youths to take part in the Stop & Shop Family Foundation Golf Classic today, which the grocer hopes will raise over $1 million for area charities in a single day.

The event will take place at four area golf venues, with the TPC Boston course in Norton, Mass. hosting the top event sponsors, and then all of the 400-plus participants for a post-golf reception. The event kicks off at noon at the 2007 Deutsche Bank Championship, the second of four PGA TOUR Playoff events.

Started in 2003, the Stop & Shop Family Foundation supports programs in the areas served by Stop & Shop. To date, the foundation has raised over $4 million through the Stop & Shop Family Foundation Golf Classic. This year the organization made its first grants totaling over $500,000.
