Stop & Shop Forms Venture with Boston Market
BOSTON - The Stop & Shop Supermarket Company today announced it will open a full-service Boston Market restaurant inside its Quincy, Mass., store, and plans to open other Boston Markets in its supermarkets this year.
"This is a great alliance between two well-known, quality brands," said Stop & Shop President and CEO Marc Smith. "We're very excited to offer our customers meal solutions by providing Boston Market's famous home-style cooked meals."
This marks the first time that Boston Market's hot, ready-to-eat meals will be offered within a supermarket retailer. The Boston Market location marks Stop & Shop's second venture with a popular restaurant brand. Tests to open full service Dunkin' Donuts stores in Stop & Shop bakery departments have proven very successful, with plans to open 80 Dunkin' Donuts by the end of 2002.
The 1,500-square foot Quincy restaurant will include the offerings of a conventional Boston Market restaurant. Located next to Stop & Shop's deli department, the 10-seat restaurant will serve both take-out and dining room customers.
In addition to the Super Stop & Shop in Quincy, Boston Market restaurants will be tested in the Stop & Shop stores in Pembroke and Walpole, Massachusetts later this year. If successful, Stop & Shop may open additional Boston Market restaurants in other supermarket locations.

Under the agreement with Boston Market Corporation, Stop & Shop is a Boston Market licensee and will operate the restaurant. The restaurant will employ up to 20 full- and part-time employees and two managers, all Stop & Shop associates. The eatery will be open from 10:30 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. daily. All meals will be cooked on-site at the restaurant.
