Stop & Shop-branded Chicken Recalled for Possible Listeria
QUINCY, Mass. -- The Stop & Shop Supermarket Company here said it was recalling 12-ounce trays of Stop & Shop All Natural Grilled Balsamic Flavored Chicken Breast, All-Natural Chef Prepared Ready-to- Heat Meals, because of possible contamination with Listeria.
The chain said the recall covers chicken products sold 25 Stop & Shop stores in New Jersey and New York. Each label of recalled product also bears the establishment number "P- 33912" inside the USDA mark of inspection and a "Sell-by" date of June 12, 2007.
Stop & Shop said no other prepared chicken products it sells were affected by the recall.
Stop & Shop said it enacted the recall following a recall of the product by the producer, Really Cool Food Company of Syosset, New York.
Really Cool Food Company recalled the 140 pounds of chicken after a routine inspection Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) food safety at its manufacturing facility uncovered Listeria monocytogenes. The chicken product being recalled was distributed to Stop & Shop stores on May 30, 2007.
The chain said that upon being notified of the recall, it immediately removed all products with the recalled code and sell-by dates from shelves. Stop & Shop said it has received no reports of illnesses associated with consumption of these products.
Listeriosis, which can result from eating foods contaminated with the Listeria monocytogenes pathogen, is uncommon but can cause death, particularly in the elderly, infants, and those with compromised immune systems.
