ALEXANDRIA, Va. -- The National Association of Chain Drug Stores' executive committee yesterday appointed Steven C. Anderson, IOM, CAE, the president and c.e.o. of NACDS, effective Feb. 23.

An association executive for 27 years, Anderson most recently served as president and c.e.o. of the National Restaurant Association, positions he held since 1999.

"NACDS is very fortunate to now have Steve Anderson's energy, experience, and passion to lead our industry during these challenging times," said Anthony N. Civello, NACDS chairman of the board and chairman of the search committee. "He has a proven track record of successfully presenting his industry's issues and agenda."

Anderson has been recognized numerous times by association publications for his impact and contributions, including the selection in 2004 as Association Trends' "Association Executive of the Year." On two occasions Washingtonian magazine named him one of the "50 Best" trade association executives.

"Steve will be a quick study on our industry issues, and is very comfortable pursuing an agenda on Capitol Hill and with other organizations," said Robert Hannan, NACDS interim president and c.e.o. for the past 10 months. "I am confident that he will continue our collaboration with industry groups and government agencies."
