Stater Bros. Tees up for Dave Stockton Heroes Challenge

San Bernardino, Calif.-based regional chain Stater Bros. is preparing for its sixth annual Stater Bros. Charities Dave Stockton Heroes Challenge, slated for March 11.

The golf event has raised nearly $3 million for southern California charities and has become the largest charity golf event in the region.  This year’s tournament will be held once again at the region’s premier Victoria Club Golf Course in Riverside, Calif.

Six years ago, Stater Bros. chairman and CEO Jack H. Brown joined forces with long-time friend and PGA Champions Tour Pro Dave Stockton to launch a vision that has helped multiple charities, causes and community members. This year’s “Heroes Challenge” will bring together 16 of local legend Stockton’s PGA Tour friends, seven Medal of Honor recipients and several celebrities.

One of the highlights of this year’s tournament is the return of PGA golfer Lee Trevino, a PGA and Champions Tour veteran who since 1968 has claimed 29 PGA Tour victories, including the 1968 and 1971 U.S. Open Championship, the 1971 and 1972 British Open, and 1974 and 1984 PGA Championships. Trevino has also won 29 Champions Tour victories.

In addition to the “Heroes Challenge,” seven Medal of Honor Recipients, who have each received the highest military decoration awarded by the United States, will attend an event at California State University, San Bernardino on March 12, where they will share their experiences with an audience of local JROTC Units and members of veterans’ organizations from throughout the region.

Stater Bros. Charities is a non-profit organization that supports critical needs in the communities where Stater Bros. employees live and work. Stater Bros. operates 167 supermarkets in Southern California.
