Stater Bros. Supports Hunger Action Month With Holiday Giving Campaign

Regional independent Stater Bros. Markets is gearing up for the kick-off of its chain-wide "Harvesting Hope in Our Communities" holiday giving campaign in November.

"Stater Bros. doesn't just do business in a community, we are part of the communities we serve," said Jack Brown, Stater Bros. chairman and CEO. "During these tough economic times, we will do all that we can to help fight hunger, not just in September, but every month of the year."

The holiday campaign is one of several food donation programs run by the San Bernardino, Calif.-based grocer. Each month, Stater Bros. donates over 300,000 pounds of bread, dry grocery, and perishable products approaching their sell-by date (but still safe for consumption) to local food banks.

Most recently, Stater Bros. participated in the San Diego Food Bank’s "Hunger Knows No Season" summer food drive by placing food barrels in all 11 San Diego County Stater Bros. locations, which yielded over 2,500 pounds of food.

The ongoing Stater Bros. "Community Support Program" provides assistance to various food banks and pantries throughout the communities served by Stater Bros. Since 1989, Stater Bros. has donated over 60 million pounds of food to local food banks.
Stater Bros. operates 167 supermarkets, and employs more than 19,000 associates.
