Spartan Stores Sturken to Ring NASDAQ Bell March 3
GRAND RAPIDS, MICHIGAN - In celebration of his fifth year of leadership at Spartan Stores Inc. here, Craig Sturken, chairman/c.e.o., will ring the NASDAQ opening bell on Monday, March 3.
"It is an honor to ring the opening NASDAQ bell in celebration of our fifth successful year since transforming into a consumer-centric organization and refocusing our business on our core distribution and retail operations," said Sturken. "We have been in the grocery business for more than 90 years and this is our eighth year as a public company, which is marked by our ability to develop and execute successful business strategies in a highly competitive market.
As the largest grocery distributor in Michigan, Sturken said the company recently reached a milestone "by expanding our distribution business into the state of Indiana. In addition, we have successfully executed two retail store acquisitions that have strengthened our market position, while expanding our supermarket store base by 63 percent during the past two years. Our consistent sales, operating profit and market share growth demonstrate the need and place for traditional supermarket operators in today's retail environment."
A live webcast of the ceremony will be available at www.nasdaq.com/reference/marketsite_about.stm.
As the nation's tenth largest grocery distributor with warehouse facilities in Grand Rapids and Plymouth, Mich., Spartan serves 400 independent grocery stores in Michigan, Indiana, and Ohio and also owns and operates 88 retail supermarkets and 14 deep-discount food and drug stores in Michigan and Ohio, including Family Fare Supermarkets, Glen's Markets, D&W Fresh Markets, Felpausch Food Centers, and The Pharm.
