Spartan Expands Distribution Services with Second-largest Customer
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- Spartan Stores, Inc. here has entered into a new three-year supply agreement with its second-largest customer, the identity of which was not immediately confirmed by the company.
In a statement Spartan said that the new supply agreement expands services to now include the distribution of all produce and floral products to the 21-store customer. The agreement also enhances the company's distribution product mix with the additional produce sales and will increase total warehouse shipments.
Craig C. Sturken, Spartan's chairman, president, and c.e.o., said: "We continually work to improve our distribution capabilities and have made significant strides, particularly with our perishable products. This agreement validates our value-added and consumer-centric distribution strategies and demonstrates that we are capitalizing on the opportunities to increase sales penetration with our existing customer base. We are proud to be a valued partner with one of our largest distribution customers that we have been serving for more than 50 years, and look forward to servicing their distribution needs for many years to come."
Spartan Stores, the nation's tenth-largest grocery distributor with warehouse facilities in Grand Rapids and Plymouth, Mich., supplies some 350 independent grocery stores in Michigan. Spartan also owns and operates 54 retail supermarkets and 19 deep-discount food and drug stores in Michigan and Ohio, including Family Fare Supermarkets, Glen's Markets, and the Pharm.
