Spartan Brings External Counsel, Former Board Member Aboard
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- Alex J. DeYonker, a former board member and external legal counsel for Spartan Stores here, will join the company outright October 2 as its new e.v.p., general counsel and corporate secretary.
In his new post, DeYonker will be a key member of Spartan's executive management team, actively participating in a broad range of legal and general management issues as general counsel and will continue the duties as corporate secretary.

DeYonker joins Spartan from Warner Norcross & Judd LLP, where he had most recently served as a managing partner. He served as Spartan's general counsel since 1995 and as its corporate secretary since 2000. He also served on Spartan's board from 1999-2003, serving on the executive and nominating committees.
DeYonker has been listed in "The Best Lawyers in America" from 1995 - 2006, and is a member of the American Bar Association, the State Bar of Michigan and the Grand Rapids Bar Association. He graduated cum laude with a J.D. from Wayne State University Law School and holds a B.S. in psychology from Michigan State University.
