Spartan Banners Raise Over $118,000 in Checkout Campaigns for Hunger Relief
Customers at Spartan Stores' D&W Fresh Markets, Family Fare, Felpausch and Glen's Markets are helping to feed close to 60,000 meals this year to communities throughout Michigan.
As a simple and easy way for communities to collectively fight hunger, the food drive enlists customers shopping at the Spartan banner stores to add a "Scan Away Hunger" tag to their grocery receipt for just $1.99. In so doing, customers can effortlessly help feed hungry and homeless people in their own community.
"The amount raised was a 31 percent increase over the previous year's campaign," said Jeanne Norcross, spokeswoman for the Grand Rapids, Mich.-based Spartan Stores. "Our customers and employees understand that the need for service from food pantries is greater than ever, and they've responded very generously."
Since its inception in 2006, Scan Away Hunger has raised over $258,000 for hunger relief, according to Norcross.
