Southern Family Markets Banners Host 1-day Food Drive
As a part of the continuing Family-to-Family Food Drive at all Southern Family Markets stores, Bruno’s and Food World have teamed up with Fox 6 for a One-Day Super Food Drive on Dec. 17 from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m., during which shoppers can drop off nonperishable food items at any Bruno’s or Food World location. Southern Family Markets will donate an additional $15,000 worth of groceries, at cost, to the United Way Community Food Bank in Birmingham, Ala., on that day.
“Although need knows no season, we know area food banks are hit heavily during the holiday season,” noted Mike Mock, VP of sales and marketing at the Birmingham-based operator, a division of C&S Grocers in Keene, N.H. “Southern Family Markets wants not only to help food banks be able to serve the needy for the holidays, but [also] to collect enough food to stock these food banks in the months ahead. It’s imperative that we support these food banks as they help feed the many families affected by these tough economic times.”
Fox 6 will broadcast live from three locations – Bruno’s stores in Hoover and Tuscaloosa, and a Food World in Rainbow City -- on Dec. 17. These locations will have large trucks waiting food donations from the community. Besides those drop-off points, all Bruno’s and Food World locations will accept food donations on the day, with all donations to be transported to each store’s local food bank.
The Family-to-Family Food Drive enables the company’s customers to help their less fortunate neighbors by donating food items or buying pre-packaged bags filled with nonperishable staple items that they can place right in the collection bins. The One-Day Super Food Drive is an effort to boost donations at Southern Family Market’s home office location, according to the grocer, with the goal of stocking up area food banks for some time to come.
In addition to Bruno’s and Food World stores, Southern Family banners include Southern Family Markets, as well as select Piggly Wiggly stores in Mississippi, Georgia and lower Alabama. All banners are taking part in the Family-to-Family Food Drive, which began Nov. 1 and runs through Dec. 31.
