Sobeys Plans Major Western Canada Push
EDMONTON, Alberta -- Sobeys is opening its first store in western Canada today in the Grant Park section of Winnipeg. An additional 56 full-service stores currently branded under the Garden Market IGA banner, including 15 in Manitoba, will be converted to Sobeys by the end of next April.
"The Garden Market stores throughout western Canada are renowned for their fresh food offering and great customer service," said Gary Kerr, executive v.p. and general manager of Sobeys West. "Sobeys stores will build on that reputation and deliver an improved in-store experience." Seven other Winnipeg-area stores will be converted to the Sobeys banner by mid-October.
Sobeys was founded in 1907.
