Smart & Final's David Hirz Named 2015 FIM Executive of the Year

The Food Industry Management Program at the USC Marshall School of Business has named David G. Hirz, president/CEO of Smart & Final, its 2015 Food Industry Executive of the Year.

Hirz will be recognized at FIM’s annual awards banquet, slated for April 29 at USC's University Park campus. “[Hirz] has demonstrated his leadership by developing a culture of learning within Smart & Final that is widely recognized by our industry, and he will be an excellent mentor for our students," said Cynthia McCloud, FIM program director.

With more than 35 years of supermarket experience, Hirz joined Commerce, Calif.-based Smart & Final as president/COO in 2010, and became president/CEO in 2012. Before that he served in significant leadership roles with Kroger Co.'s Food 4 Less and Ralphs banners, as well as Boys Markets.
